- I've got a ReNO CD-ROM drive, which is an external SCSI CD-ROM drive. I'm
- using it with my A3000, using the external A3000 port on my Amiga. There
- are two internal SCSI hard drives on the computer; the CD-ROM drive is the
- only external device. I've set the SCSI device number so that it doesn't
- conflict with either hard drive, and have the DIP switch in the CD-ROM drive
- set so that the external SCSI bus is terminated. I've tried using this both
- with WB3.1's CD-ROM filesystem and the AmiCDROM filesystem (version 1.15)
- from AmiNet.
-
- At first glance, things seem to work. I can mount the drive, I can get
- directory listings, I can copy files. However, I am runnign into trouble
- when I copy files. I've tried copying 250kB image files from the CD-ROM
- drive to my hard disk, my RAM disk, and a nfs disk over the network. In all
- cases, I'm getting errors in the files when I copy them from the CD-ROM.
- The problem is intermittent; the errors show up in different places, and not
- every time I copy the files.
-
- Can anybody suggest to me what the problem might be, and if there is
- anything I can do to fix it?
-
- I saw this paragraph in the CDROM FAQ (found on Aminet):
-
- ====================
- 5.1.3 A3000 External SCSI
- -------------------------
- If you exsperience problems on external SCSI-devices on you A3000 check
- if the term-power diode is inserted correctly. Several revisions had
- wrongly placed diodes and so have problems with external devices.
- ====================
-
- Would this problem explain the errors I've seen? Could anybody tell me
- where to find the term-power diode on the A3000 motherboard? What's its
- part number on the motherboard? Where physically is it? What does it look
- like?
-
- Thanks for any help anybody can provide.
